On June 1, 1990, my Father died at the age of 47. I was only 19 years old at the time, barely in college, when I had to take over the family’s business. Like my father, I had to leave school to take care of my family; a younger sister and my mother. If it hadn’t been for my mother comforting and shielding me from all the financial difficulties; I do not know if I would have survived. But my father did leave me something; a great foundation. He taught me never to give up, and he left me an incredible work ethic. In the midst of a recession with lots of well established companies failing, I survived with the help of my mother and my need to survive to provide financial support for my mother and sister.
In 1998 my sister Joanna left a job in the brokerage business to join the family business. She helped redevelop the office structure of the company. In 1999 after trying many different areas of business I decided to strictly focus on service. We started advertising, and building our business on the focus that customers come first. If we ran late on a job and a customer was expecting us we worked late. What ever was necessary for our customers was our motto. We grew quickly. We’ve grown from having 3 trucks in 1999 to having just over 100 trucks in 2007. We added other practices to our business, handyman in 2001, plumbing in 2003, Generator sales and installation in 2005, and recently we added Heating and Air Conditioning in 2007. We have grown because I have been very lucky to surround myself with good managers and a staff of team players. My people respect me because I have respect for them. We all believe in what my father taught me as a kid, which was to serve the customer first and have pride in your work.
I strongly believe that we are the best company out there to serve your needs. We work hard everyday to improve ourselves and to exceed our customer’s expectations. I also believe that we will always be your best choice for services needed in your home or office because we strive to do our best for our customers all of the time. With our customer’s feedback we will always find opportunities for improvement and continue to strive for perfection.
In closing I want to thank you for taking your time to read about the history of Michael & Son, and thank all my present and future customers for their support.

PS: Since I wrote this short bio about the origins of the company, a lot of people have been kind enough to write and share their comments with me. I can not express how much gratitude and joy I have felt from their correspondence. But there is another chapter in my story, on December 26, 2007 my mother passed at the age of 67, talk about getting hit by a bus, more than a year later it still hurts everyday. On a positive note, I have been really blessed with two of the greatest parents I could have had. No financial success can ever come close to the success I have in my personal life, with my two great sons, lovely wife, a sister whom I share a close relationship with. And of course my best friend and teacher that I lost in my father, I am truly thankful for the nineteen years of friendship I had with him, and of course to my unselfish mother, who always put my needs always ahead of her own. I miss her and I always will
